The creation of Tampa Bay jobs has been continuous since private and public institutions have intensified their efforts to work together to attract business people and companies to the Tampa Bay area. As more people get jobs or relocate to take on these jobs, there is one sector that also gets more active as families find places to stay, and that’s the Tampa Bay real estate market.

ReliaQuest Expansion

The latest company that expanded its operations in Tampa is ReliaQuest, a leading creator of IT security solutions. With a plan to hire 150 more employees, it has moved to a new state-of-the-art building in downtown Tampa to give space to these new employees. They will build the company’s new research and development unit called RQ Innovation Team for the creation of new advanced IT monitoring systems.

Continued Growth of Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC)

DTCC said that local talent and the growth of financial services firms and technology companies in the Tampa Bay area are among the main factors of its continued growth. It also mentioned factors such as easy access to a leading regional airport and great communities and great schools for its employees. It praised talent from the University of South Florida and the University of Tampa and even the University of Florida and University of Central Florida.
It has also hired experienced veterans from the McDill Air Force Base.

The expansion of global leaders Bristol-Myers Squibb and Johnson & Johnson in the Tampa Bay area has definitely put Tampa Bay on the spotlight. We can almost hear site selectors saying, “There must be something in Tampa that those multinationals went there. Let’s check out Tampa!”

Job impact of Amazon’s fulfillment center

Amazon created 1,078 new jobs and invested more than $204 million in its one-million-square-foot fulfillment center. It’s considered the biggest industrial development in the history of Hillsborough County.

29,100 New Private-Sector Jobs Created in Tampa Area in 2016

Tampa is Number 1 in Florida for job openings in high-wage STEM occupations, according to Florida Governor Rich Scott. Of the 237,300 private-sector jobs created across Florida in 2016, the Tampa Bay area created 12.3 percent.

Lower Unemployment Rate

Tampa Bay’s unemployment rate of 4.5% in December 2016 was lower than the statewide unemployment rate which was 4.9%. The industries with the most job growth rates over the year were:
Construction — 8,400 new jobs
Professional and Business Services — 6,700 new jobs
Trade, Transportation, and Utilities — 4,900 new jobs
Education and Health Services — 4,500 new jobs
